The latest trend in aesthetic dermatology is to develop very effective techniques that do not require a period of recuperation. They are a range of treatments for rejuvenation, anti-wrinkle, acne marks or coetaneous lesions, among others.
The most recent in this sense is the Omnilux (photodynamic therapy with Leds lasers and ALA) that forms a part of the treatment with non-ablative lasers not needing a recovery period (lunch time treatments).
It is an authentic revolution for the comfort level of treatment and above all for the spectacular results they are achieving. It is the first time a treatment combining light and the use of a sensitizing substance has been applied to the face, and for this reason it is so important.
Omnilux: lunch time treatment
The Omnilux system of photodynamic therapy combines the emission of light by means of a LEDs light (Diode emitters of light: blue for acne and red for rejuvenation) with the application to the skin of a substance called ALA (Acid d-Amino-Levulinic) that makes the skin sensitive to the light emissions. In this way it increases its effect in the treatment of rejuvenation, acne, and tumour lesions. The effectiveness of each session depends on the time of exposure to the light and the quantity of ALA applied.
This is a non-invasive procedure with an easy application. A session lasts around twenty minutes and does not cause pain.
Red light can be used to correct coetaneous stains, to remove small wrinkles, to improve the oxygenation of the coetaneous tissue and for the toning of the skin. With four to six sessions, at the most, you can see spectacular improvement with significantly better results than with the use of the CO2 laser and without a period of recuperation.
With only one session, the blue light is capable of destroying the bacteria that causes acne. It also produces a biostimulation that increments repair mechanisms that improve the overall look of your skin.
The application of light induces the elimination of tumour cells in a selective form.
Acne is a “multi-factored” process that comes together under three circumstances:
Many patients require oral treatments that can have side effects or simply do not function because the resistance to antibiotics has increased some 62% in the last few years.
For this reason new therapeutic options are under investigation and among these treatments is Photodynamic Therapy for Acne. Photodynamic Therapy for Acne consists of the use of blue light to activate photosensitivity inducers that are applied externally in a cream forming free radicals that destroy the bacteria that causes acne, Propionibacterium Acnes.
The laser responsible for emitting this blue light is the Omnilux. The Omnilux is a laser system capable of emitting three types of light. The light employed for acne is the blue light. A dermatologist from Instituto Médico Láser evaluates each patient to establish a protocol for an appropriate treatment.
Usually the treatment is done in two weekly sessions over a course of three weeks.
Improvement is evident in a few sessions and is more visible some time after finishing the four weeks of treatment.
