The device of choice at IML for the treatment of blemishes and scars caused by acne is non-ablative fractional 1540 laser: it delivers laser light in the shape of thermal micro columns that reach the deep reticular dermis, creating coagulated areas around the healthy tissue and facilitates fast epithelisation. The heat generated induces regeneration of existing collagen and production of new collagen fibres, all without affecting the skin surface.
The procedure consists of applying the non-ablative fractional laser headpiece on the treated area. The number of sessions should be set by the IML medical staff after an evaluation of each particular case, although the average number of sessions is usually 4, with one month's rest between each. It produces slight reddening that remits 2 or 3 days later and can be camouflaged easily with light makeup, so the patient can return to their normal daily activity immediately.
A study performed by IML shows that Acne RepairIML achieves gradual improvement in the skin's appearance, reduces the pore size, attenuates scars and reduces sebaceous secretion. The maximum results are visible 6 months after treatment, the time needed for total skin regeneration.
