At IML, eyelid surgery (technically called blepharoplasty) is a procedure that employees the CO2 laser and Erbium:YAG lasers to remove fat -usually along with excess skin and muscle (bags)- from the upper and lower eyelids.
Excess skin in the upper eyelid is removed directly. In the lower lid, a periocular resurfacing is performed to remove crow’s feet, excess skin and any skin flaws caused by the ageing process such as spots, hyperkeratosis and scattered hyperpigmentation (dark circles under the eyes).
The eyes are the mirror of the soul… And on many occasions they also reflect the passage of time. The area around the eyes is where you can see the passage of time more noticeably (crow’s feet, baggy eyes, frown lines). Aesthetic medicine gives you easy solutions with excellent results.
As time goes by, the area around the eyes or “periocular” area becomes baggy, with the appearance of crow’s feet and frown lines. These are signs of ageing that we have been addressing for years here at Instituto Médico Láser using different solutions to the different problems.
A blepharoplasty is the term used to describe the surgical removal of "eye bags". It is a simple procedure that allows the removal of excess skin and fat from the upper and lower eyelid.
Instituto Médico Láser, uses the Derma K laser, to carry out this procedure, the most advanced technique at present. This system combines CO2 and Erbium lasers, offering great advantages such as theabsence of scars and practically no side effects. The CO2 laser is used to perform a dry incision (bloodless incision) and the Erbium laser is used to ablate the skin, reducing the skin volume without a scar.
Prior to the treatment, adepigmenting cream is applied over the area for two weeks. After the laser session, an epithelising ointment is applied. After one week, the depigmenting treatment is restarted.
Laser blepharoplasty is the ideal treatment to treat static wrinkles. That is, wrinkles that are not caused by the direct action of muscle mobility.

Frontal Lift: This technique is performed under local anaesthesia and sedation. The dropping eyebrow is lifted by means of an incision made on the scalp to keep it disguised. Another reason for the procedure is to separate the eyebrows.
This same operation treats forehead lines and frown lines, in a definitive manner by weakening the muscles that cause these lines (frontal and facial corrugator muscle). The effect achieved is similar to that obtained with the infiltrated treatment, but in this case, the result is permanent.
Even though this technique can be rather bothersome for someone who is not familiarised with surgery, it is a very safe and simple technique that achieves very predictable results and high patient satisfaction, with a shortened postoperative period.
Direct Ciliary Lift:This is a very simple technique that lifts the eyebrows dramatically as the incision is performed directly on the hairline of the eyebrow.
One of the latest advances in the field of rejuvenation is the cold laser, a new technique similar to the laser that eliminates the stigmas of photoageing without a recovery period or secondary effects. A therapeutic alternative with no anaesthesia for today’s woman whose professional, personal and social activity cannot be slowed down or stopped due to a convalescent period.
After observing the skin improvement achieved in the photoepilation sessions, this same technology has began to be used to achieve an improvement in skin texture, coloration and small skin blood vessels. This technique is indicated in patients in whom, due to their age and scarce photoageing, should not undergo a resurfacing or in those who do not have the time to undergo a conventional resurfacing treatment.
Although the treatment can be limited to the periocular area, the entire face is usually treated with touch up sessions spaced at 3 or 4 week intervals for a total of 6 to 8 sessions. After each session, the patient can resume his or her daily routines immediately.
The Instituto Médico Láser usually combines this rejuvenation system with other treatments such as the infiltrated treatment, facial fillers, lifts, etc.
