Dr. Josefina Royo, speaker at the 23rd SELMQ Congress

Dr. Josefina Royo de la Torre, Instituto Medico Laser Director, participated in the 23rd Spanish Society of Medical-Surgical Laser (SELMQ) Congress, held in Bilbao on 29 and 30 May 2015, with the presentation "Morphological changes measured with Confocal Microscopy  to interpret skin quality improvement following radiofrequency, laser and hyaluronic treatments".

With the Confocal Microscopy available at IML, in vivo optical biopsies can be performed, without the need for incisions, due to the use of a virtual window where cells can be viewed from the stratum corneum to the reticular dermis. This non-invasive method allows for differential diagnosis, evaluation of the photoageing process, characterization of the skin morphology, detection of lesions and comparison of the the degree of improvement obtained in the cells and tissues following the applied medical procedures.
