Laser Blepharoplasty

Developed by Instituto Medico Laser, laser blepharoplasty is a minimally invasive revolutionary technique which achieves complete rejuvenation of the eyes.

Due to the action of the Active FX laser, the laser blepharoplasty technique can correct bags, crow's feet and eyelid sagging in one, thus minimising the risks involved and reducing recovery time in half.

Laser blepharoplasty also solves most risks and limitations and the risks associated with traditional blepharoplasty:

Risk reduction

The precision involved in the laser blepharoplasty technique facilitates "soft" surgery which allows for greater precision in each surgical step. It allows for laser ablation of the fat deposits by cleaning and resecting them.

In cases of thick skin or superfluous orbicular muscles which give the sensation of an overly thick and heavy eyelid a defocalised CO2 laser emission can photocoagulate the superficial portion of the muscle to reduce its thickness with no incision needed; at the same time, the thick hypodermis that may appear behind the dermis can de thinned down during treatment.

A clean dissection separates the non-structural fat of the lower eyelid which corresponds to the suborbicular oculi fat of the zygomatic groove and repositions it to avoid a sunken eyes effect after resecting the bags.

Reduction of the recovery period

The laser blepharoplasty technique is an ambulatory procedure and is performed under local anaesthetic. Since there is no bleeding, no bruising is developed and the inflammation is also reduced.

All of these advantages aid in a reduced recovery period, making the convalescence much shorter and less cumbersome of no more than 8 days in the case of upper eyelids and 5 for the lower lids.

Laser blepharoplasty prevents white eye syndrome

A side effect which sometimes occurs after an external incision under the lashes to remove bags is performed. If the eyelid pulls down once it has been sutured the sclera is exposed, causing white eye syndrome. This effect is only visible in babies and is extremely rare in adults; therefore it is a sure sign of eye surgery.

Laser blepharoplasty technique corrects lower eyelid laxity without this risk, since the incision is minimal (5 to 10 millimetres) and is performed in the conjunctiva (transconjunctival incision) thorough which the septum is accessed and the characteristic three fat deposits in the lower lid are resected.

Besides avoiding the white eye syndrome, there is no external scarring under the lower lid eyelashes. The resurfacing procedure that follows achieves perfect skin retraction and also eliminates grooves and wrinkles, rejuvenating the skin.

Traditional blepharoplasty reduces the protruding eyelids with a scalpel, risking excessive correction. Laser blepharoplasty does not cause bleeding, it eliminates one or eyelid surface layers in a precise and controlled manner without the need of incisions. Therefore, the posterior muscle contraction is more homogenous.

Instituto Medico Laser combines the laser blepharoplasty technique with growth factors, aimed at accelerating the skin's internal recovery and healing.
