Non Ablative Fractional Laser 1540

With the incorporation of the StarLux platform, IML now has a further therapeutic option for the treatment of different skin problems such as acne marks, scars and rejuvenation, Based on non-ablative fractional 1540 Nm laser technology.

Non-ablative fractional 1540 laser technology

As opposed to other ablative devices, StarLux fractional laser emits 100 high pressure thermal columns for each section of 10 mm of skin, each one separated from the other by health surrounding tissue, which penetrates the deep dermis. The energy produces thermal damage that liberates as Heat Shock Proteins 47 and 90, the proteins responsible for activating the fibroblast metabolism. These cells take care of the production of new collagen fibres and the maintenance of the dermis' extracellular structure. StarLux thus achieves collagen remodelling, keeping the skin surface practically untouched and allowing for a rapid recover of the tissue.

The presence of new collagen and elastin fibres improves the texture and flaccidity of aged skin, reduces fine facial wrinkles and stains caused by the sun on the face, neck, neckline and hands. Although the most innovative application of fractional laser is for the treatment of stretch marks and scars, both hypertrophic (trauma or surgical scars) and atrophic (acne scars). Thanks to the formation and restructuring of the collagen, StarLux manages to diminish the depth and width of all types of scar while improving the texture of the treated area.

The application of treatment with non-ablative fractional laser is simple, only requiring that the skin be well cleansed. Its advanced cooling system provides comfortable and perfectly well tolerated treatment. In cases of especially sensitive skin and large areas, such as acne scar treatments on the face, the application of an anaesthetic is recommended since this is a highly sensitised area. Several passes are performed on the treated area in each session. The patient perceives a slight heat sensation during treatment. Once the session is over, a light inflammation in the region will appear, subsiding a few hours later. There may be a mild reddening in the area for 24 to 48 hours.

Number of sessions

IML recommends applying an average of 4 sessions to obtain satisfactory results at 2 to 4 week intervals. Results are evident after the first session in most cases, although the final effect needs time to allow the tissue to reach to expected collagen renewal, which takes 3 to 6 months.

The possibility of performing as many sessions as are needed, as long as the intervals between sessions is respected, allows the practitioner to achieve the best results possible by applying additional sessions; whereas in ablative treatments, repeat applications should wait 12 months.

Treatment permits the combination with other techniques such as the implantation of fillers in body and facial areas.

The excellent results obtained in pathologies which were to date difficult to treat -such as acne scars, stretch marks or hypertrophic scar- makes StarLux the tool of choice for the Dermatologists at IML.
