3 Step Peel is a medical grade chemical peel designed by the dermatologist Zein Obagi and available at IML to achieve healthy skin and reduce the symptoms of photoageing, such as blemishes, melasma, fine lines, lacklustre skin or irregular texture.

What are the differences between the 3 Step Peel and other chemical peels?

The 3 Step Peel was designed by Dr. Zein Obagi, creator of the ZO Skin Health range. The differences of the 3 Step Peel with regards to other peels are:

1. Multifunctional. This peel obtains benefits that go much deeper than other peels that only improve the surface. Besides the exfoliant effect on the epidermis, it also generates regeneration of the dermis.
2. Skin health. The 3 Step Peel is designed based on the philosophy of skin health, understood as aiming at continuously achieving healthy skin and not limiting it to transitory treatments for skin ageing symptoms.
3. Safety, comfort and recovery. This peel is safe, well tolerated by patients and with uncomplicated recovery.

What are the indications of the 3 Step Peel?

This peel is suitable for any type skin type and colour and is indicated in treating different symptoms of skin ageing:

• Lacklustre skin.
• Acne.

How does the 3 Step Peel work?

As its name indicates, this peel consists of three steps:

Step 1: Peel application

• 10% TCA (trichloroacetic acid).
• 17% salicylic acid.
• 5% lactic acid.
• Saponins.
• Glycerine.

Step 2: Stimulation. Retinol application

Retinol stimulates cell function in the deep skin levels, aimed at generating new collagen fibres, that reinforce the skin and reduce fine lines.

Step 3: Anti-inflammatory process

A calming and moisturising cream is applied, this reduces inflammation and irritation caused by the two previous steps, as well as restoring the skin's moisture balance.

3 Step Peel includes a pre-conditioning stage and a post-peel stage:

Pre-conditioning stage

Consists of applying creams rich in retinoids, prescribed by the dermatologist a fortnight before the peel. Retinoids normalize the corneal layer, facilitating penetration of the peel in a uniform and effective way.

Post-peel stage

During the three days after the peel, the patient should apply calming and moisturising creams, use sun protection and continue with the retinoid treatment.

Results expected from a 3 Step Peel are luminosity, uniform texture and blemish reduction, among others

What are the effects of the 3 Step Peel?

The immediate effects following application are:

• Slight redness.
• Sensation of dry skin.
• Exfoliation.

The exfoliation stage last for 3 to 4 days and then the regeneration stage begins, resulting in healthy skin.

The results we can expect from the 3 Step Peel are:
